11/28/2003: Fraud & Conspiracy
An EJ Mini-Rant
from crazywriterinla
I don't know how newsworthy it is, but I found this to be a solid case of the media, in particular an evil, Viacom-driven media, revising history:
So I turn on tv and mtv is on (I fell asleep watching something else, f'n tivo) and they're doing a 22 best albums ever thing. And they're talking about Nirvana's Nevermind and how great the album was and how different it was at the time. Now I will never, EVER diss Nirvana for their contribution to music and to my life and to many people's lives that I am close with, however there was a quote that Chris Morris from Billboard magazine said about them that really pissed me off:
"(Nirvana) brought punk rock to America."
Did you read that? Read it again. I swear to bleeping god he said it.
Somewhere out there, Sid Vicious is rolling around in his grave thinking he's having a bad dream. Revisionist history. Gotta Love it.

NIRVANA brought punk rock to America? But they told me just last week Avril Lavigne did that!
Man, I'll never believe a word MTV says from now on.

Yeah, and Kenny G invented jazz and Axl Rose invented rock n roll.
I have lost respect for Billboard any any modicum of respect I may have had for MTV as a credible source on anything.
