Mc Sick, Mc Tired and Mc Can't Take It Anymore

This weekend, I was on vacation with my girlfriend, redniyte, drving along the highways of America. We were getting peckish, so we decided to make a trip to that food savior of the highways, Mc Donalds. As we were pulling in, we started talking about how when the nutritional police talk about "servings," they mean the small size. As an experiment, we decided to get just two regular hamburgers apiece. redniyte got a small shake, and i got a small coke. The cost: about $6.00. The small shake was the big- ticket item at $1.59, the hamburgers .89, and the coke, $1.00. No fries. What is the use of deep- fried potato strips that distract you from your hamburger? We fed two adult humans for less than the price of most of the value meals. Everyone else in the Mc Donalds was eating super- sized value meals and wolfing them down with abandon while we slowly ate our modest hamburgers.

So why is everyone so obese? They go into Mc Donalds, and instead of eating a rational- sized meal, they shovel these totally ridiculous- sized meals down and don't share and then they feel sick afterwards. What the fuck do you need 64 oz. of Coke or half a pound of fries for? You can eat whatever you want- as long as you have a normal serving size and chew slowly. Is that so hard for Americans to do? Then to make matters worse, they balloon to obese proportions and need to get their stomachs stapled because they can't bring themselves to exercise self- control, and then pundits blame this tragedy not on the person, but on the fact that Mc Donald's is "so bad for you." One plain Mc Donald's hamburger, while not as good a nutritional choice, as say, a carrot, is just a hamburger. The problem is adding 2- 3 more patties, slathering the thing with cheese and mayonnaise and the disturbingly oversized fries and the coke, and calling it a meal for one person.

Mc Donald's is just trying to make a buck- always have, always will. But should they be held responsible for the abuse of their product?

That and nobody exercises. Current research says avoiding regular, modest exercise is more of a health risk than smoking. Light 'em up, boys!
