Nauru Government In "Political Crisis" After Tied Confidence Vote
from Radio Australia

The Pacific state of Nauru is in the midst of another political crisis. Sean Dorney reports that a parliamentary vote of no confidence in President Rene Harris has tied at eight-all.

(Dorney) The latest crisis in Nauru was precipitated by the resignation of the justice minister, Godfrey Thoma. President Harris appointed another member, Russel Kun, as minister for justice, and when the no-confidence vote was put he survived only because the numbers were evenly split - eight for and eight against. The Speaker did not vote.

The 18th member of parliament, Remy Namaduk, was not present but he is expected to be back in Nauru when the parliament meets again tomorrow.

President Harris was returned to the presidency just six months ago after removing Ludwig Scotty in a no-confidence vote and he will now be counting on Mr Namaduk's support to remain in office.

Freakin Remy.

They have a government??? From everything I've read it sounded like lawlessness. Do you think I could run for Prime Minister of Sealand?

It's like when Queen Amadala went before the republic and was tricked into initiating a vote of no-confidence for Chancellor Velour. Does life imitate Lucas or does Lucas imitate Life?
