Burger flipping reclassified as manufacturing
from U.S. House of Representatives (Acrobat Reader required)
Representative John Dingell of Michigan wrote to the Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers, Gregory Mankiw, voicing his distaste for the reclassifying of most food service jobs as manufacturing in the recent "Economic Report of the President."
Based on this one letter, I am going to say I like Dingell and wish there were more people like him in politics. Though since I am pretty much clueless when it comes to politics, this means almost nothing.
He puts forward a few hard questions for Mr. Mankiw on behalf of his constituents.
- Will federal student loans and Trade Adjustment Assistance grants be applied to tuition costs at Burger College?
- Will the administration commit to allowing the Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) to fund cutting edge burger research such as new nugget ingredients or keeping the hot and cold sides of a burger separated until consumption?
- Will special sauce now be counted as a durable good?
- Do you want fries with that?
