03/12/2004: Fraud & Conspiracy Fraud & Conspiracy

My Congressman is an Asshat; Or F-Markey

I was listening to Howard Stern this morning and he mentioned that Ed Markey is the chief sponsor of the bill to get him off the air. My blood froze. I am in Ed Markey's Congressional district. He is a Democrat. He ran unopposed. I voted for him. I actually voted for him because he has a pretty decent record on tracking nuclear proliferation. I went to Google News and typed in Ed Markey and the first thing that came up was from Fox News. Here is a quote from the article entitled "House Passes Broadcast Decency Bill:"

"Rep Ed Markey, D-Mass., a main co-sponsor of the bill, chastised the FCC for not using the enforcement tools it has as its disposal -- such as revoking station licenses -- to be a more aggressive enforcer of current decency rules."

So one of the all- Democratic Massachusetts Congressional delegation, who is the ranking Democrat on the Telecommunications and the Internet Subcommittee, is apparently chastising FCC Chairman Michael Powell and all the other stupid culture facists in the Republican Party for not being tough enough on potty- mouthed shock jock DJs and breasts that refuse to remain covered. Ladies and gentlemen, your liberal Massachusetts Democrat has no clothes. Presumptive Democratic Presidential Nominee John Kerry also agrees with the taking down of Howard Stern. He and Bush are both members of the same secret society for fark's sake! All of the freedoms and excesses of the 1990s are being taken away in the name of rooting out "terrorism," which when you break it down, is just another "-ism." Howard Stern- and by extension free speech- is being taken down by a coalition of Democrats AND Republicans, and noone is speaking out! The rich aging Baby Boomers are uniting to break the spirit of whatever we stood for in the 1990s. Personally, when the young kids realize how their hippie parents are keeping them in some 1950s vealpen hell, the backlash will be huge. But where is the outrage right now? Where is the ACLU and the other usual free- speech defenders?

Back to reality. Ed Markey is running for reelection this November, and he is currently running unopposed. When you vote, it is important that this election is not about "Anyone But Bush"- that is narrow- minded and not looking at the big picture. It's about turning ALL the rascals out!

It bears noting that the bill in question passed the House by a oh-so-partisan vote of 391-22. One of the few dissenting votes is from one of the few non-asshat congressmen, Mr. Ron Paul. His acid remarks to the House during the debate are transcribed here.
