04/15/2004: That's Entertainment? That's Entertainment?

Samurai Sportsman
from Outdoor Life Network

Yoshi is a modern- day Samurai who will combine humor and a fun spirited approach as he utilizes his martial arts training to master traditional American outdoor activities. The premiere episode will feature bass fishing legend Bill Dance. Yoshi learns the art of bass fishing from the master and becomes one with the rod and reel while teaching Bill the way of the sword.

In future episodes, OLN's most prominent outdoor experts will share their knowledge with Yoshi as eastern tradition meets western expertise. From sporting clays with Tom Knapp to log rolling with Ironjack World Champions, OLN's master outdoorsmen will teach Yoshi their discipline while learning from his Samurai ways. While discovering each other's skills these experts manage to share enjoyable, fun and leisure moments together always mindful of the pleasure and joys that life in the outdoors, no matter how approached, should bring to us.

"Yoshi brings his own unique approach to each sport," said Williams. "Because of his rigorous martial arts training he has intense focus and composure. Given the Samurai's reverence for nature, Yoshi is at one with the outdoors and quickly builds a rapport and relationship with OLN's other hosts. He is adept with a range of weaponry: swords of all sizes and shapes, bows and arrows, and even guns."

In each episode Yoshi attempts a different outdoor activity working closely with an expert who becomes the other main character of that episode. Samurai Sportsman's interaction with his fellow OLN expert offers comic relief and dramatic tension as his eastern culture matches skills with those of the west.

This show comes to me highly recommended. An anonymous reader writes: "Samauri Sportsman is on the outdoor living/life channel and it is the best show i have ever seen, sometimes. I can't remember if you guys had free cable or something. cause it's on cable. He is a true warrior attempting to conquer a new frontier- outdoor sports. He uses his samauri skills and training to learn how to shoot ducks and kill deer efficiently." Commiecast apparently doesn't offer the channel in my area, so if someone wanted to TiVo it and send it to me...
