NPR on Electronic Music Pioneers
from NPR

Cool story this morning on NPR's Morning Edition about Louis and Bebe Barron who did the score for Forbidden Planet (starring a youthful Leslie Nielsen) but got screwed out of title credits because the union thought electronic music took jobs away from good decent hardworking sousaphone players.

Cruise by the NPR site for the story, including some archival video and audio.

And of course, no discussion of electronic music pioneers would be complete without mentioning Delia Derbyshire, who performed the original version of the "Doctor Who" theme. She is wicked rad, and hearing the story of how she composed this piece of elctronica history gives you quite an insight into how much work it used to take to make music like this.

"wicked rad"???

That's the definition of crossing the streams.
