Bill Weld: Still Kickin' It
from Canadian Broadcasting Corporation

William F. WeldWilliam F. Weld
Imagine my surprise and delight when the visage of Bill Weld appeared on my computer screen last night while watching the CBC's The National. Bill is now with the Council on Foreign Relations and was hawking a new CFR report "call[ing] for a North American economic and security community by 2010." The CBC says
"The document's proposals would try to create a secure perimeter around the continent, while making it easier for people and goods to move across the shared borders. The proposals contained in the report are expected to be a part of the discussions when Prime Minister Paul Martin and Mexican President Vicente Fox meet with U.S. President George W. Bush at his ranch in Crawford, Texas."

You'll remember that Weld was nominated to be ambassador to Mexico, but his nomination was quashed by Jesse Helms because Weld spoke in favor of medical marijuana. You'll also remember that Weld's Lt. Governor and successor Paul Celucci is the outgoing US ambassador to the Great White North. Bill has moved on to be an author and investment banker. (You can read an excerpt from the novel 2002 Stillwater which takes place in the lost towns of the Quabbin) Ahh, to return back to the days of tolls on the Pike closing and the annual St. Patty's day tete a tete will Sen. Billy Bulger. Do you really think Weld would be putting up with this Big Dig mess?
